This week we have been celebrating Chinese New Year. The children have been busy exploring rice and noodle themed play trays filled with characters from the story of the river race as well as examples of Chinese writing and numbers. Some children helped to make Chinese dragons from boxes which we used in a music and movement session. The children watched a clip of a family getting ready to celebrate Chinese New Year and discovered red envelopes are sometimes exchanged with money inside. The children liked this idea so we decorated our own money envelopes and filled them with chocolate coins!
